Aquatic Biosecurity is a leading multidisciplinary aquatic science and charter boat supplier to government, NGOs and the community. In operation since 2014 it has successfully operated three Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Domestic Commercial Vessels (DCV) in diverse projects. Aquatic Biosecurity has taken hundreds of community members out to sea on short tours as part of the OzFish Seeds For Snapper project which it initiated in 2019. Now after three years in the making, the Marine Biology for a Day course on the renovated vessel Electric Penguin represents a new project for the business, to develop a niche tourism project combining science with tourism. The Electric Penguin is the only electric passenger DCV in South Australia representing an innovative and ecofriendly addition to South Australia’s tourism options.

Marine biology for a day is the only tourism trip course for budding environmentalists available from an electric boat in Australia. Tour the Port River including sightseeing for the ships graveyard at Garden Island and Inner Port Adelaide historical sites, maybe even spot one of the precious Port River dolphins whilst learning what its like to be a marine biologist. The marine biology for a day course onboard the electric vessel is perfect for corporate bonding days, marine ambassadors and ecotourism warriors.
The tour will include the option to try an array of actual research equipment that professional marine biologists get to use to get real data. Water quality meters, underwater cameras, sonar chartplotters, microscopes, hydrophones and more.
The first commercial boat of its kind in South Australia, Electric Penguin is a renovated cruise-ship rescue boat which has an electric inboard engine which means no noise, no fuel, no exhaust and no vibration for pure serenity at sea. Electric Penguin operates in the Port River from its berth in the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron (RSAYS) offering half day and full day tours. The vessel is dolphin safe, with a kort nozzle shrouded propeller.
