The Tooms Lake boat ramp is located on the north of the lake at Halls Bay. Public toilet facilities are also located here. Tooms Lake lies within the Tooms Lake Conservation area managed by the Parks and Wildlife Service.
Tooms Lake fishery is managed by the Inland Fisheries Service, who supplements the natural recruitment with stocks of brown and rainbow trout.
Tooms Lake is a low-altitude freshwater (466m). Angling methods include wet and dry fly fishing, trolling, lure casting and bait fishing.
