Itinerary highlights

Cawarra Homestead (Dr. Henry Lindeman's home)

In 1840, Dr Lindeman and his wife Eliza Bramhall set off on a voyage to start a new life in Australia. He acquired Cawarra Estate in 1840.

In 1843, Dr Lindeman planted the first vines on his 816 acre property “Cawarra” deep in the Hunter Valley.

There in the rich soils of the Paterson River flats, he planted Riesling, Verdelho and Shiraz grapes and set about building a cottage, a winery and a cellar to age his wines until they were ready for release.

Lostock Dam

The dam was built following the drought of 1964 to 1966. At that time there was a need for a water conservation storage in the Paterson Valley to stabilise and further develop rural productivity. Walk or drive across the dam wall for views of the lake and rolling countryside.

Boot Hill

Boot Hill is a great selection of hundreds of shoes and boots strung along the fence of a farming property on Allyn River Road, Upper Allyn, north of Eccleston. The owners originally put up a sign, “Boot Hill” and a few old shoes on the fence. Since then it has increased to approximately 1,000 shoes and boots through visitors who have created a great sense of fun and freedom. A truly stunning piece of organic public art!

Ladies Well

Ladies Well is a special place, where visitors can enjoy the cool waters of the Allyn River, surrounded by granite boulders and lush forest.

Located within the eastern portion of Chichester State Forest on the Allyn River, and at the foothills of the Barrington, Ladies Well is a popular swimming hole – especially in the warmer months.
