A Guided stroll through an arguably under-appreciated and sometimes overlooked part of the eastern Adelaide Park Lands.

This Park was a centrepiece in three massively popular annual sporting events (the Tour Down Under; the equestrian three day event, and supercar racing.

It’s home to an ancient olive grove, the ephemeral Botanic Creek, school sporting fields, a children’s playground, a pepper tree boulevard, and much more. Find out about “King Rodney” the man after whom this Park was named. Wear sturdy shoes for a walk of about 1.6km.

Approximately 1.5 hours duration. Meet at the corner of East Tce and Bartels Rd. (Southern side of Bartels Rd) Children and dogs are most welcome.

Itinerary highlights

Disc Golf course

A nine-hole course for disc golf (i.e. frisbees). Introduced in May 2020, a fun way to enjoy this Park. Challenge yourself to get your flying disc into the baskets, using minimum throws

Historic olive groves

One of the most historic parts of this Park, planted in 1872, this olive grove was a Victoria era solution to the deforestation of the Park Lands in the decades immediately after European settlement.

Avenues of century-old blue gums and pepper trees

Motorists can see the majestic blue gums planted just off Wakefield Rd but there’s also an avenue equally-old pepper trees hidden from view near the centre of the Park.

Century-old pedestrian bridges over the creek

Dating back to 1905, there are three wooden bridges built across Botanic Creek that winds its way through this Park

Sports fields and major event spaces

Two sporting fields are licenced to Christian Brothers College but the wide-open spaces in this Park are used annually for a number of high profile sporting events that bring crowds to Adelaide

Adelaide Park Lands Walking Tours

Guided Walks to explore little-known nooks and crannies of Adelaide’s greatest treasure: the unique open spaces of its Park Lands.

Adelaide is the only city in the world garlanded by Park Lands. In effect the city is built inside a park, and each part of the Park has its own unique features, heritage, and current usage.

Guided Walks are led by trained Tour leaders and can take between 90 minutes and two hours depending upon the location.
