Tucked down a laneway off Glenferrie Road, Bar Selecta is a must-visit for anyone exploring Melbourne’s after-dark scene. Led by bar director Joey Tai and Masaki Hisaike, the program celebrates Japanese craft and local creativity. Joey’s inventive cocktails and seasonal signatures sit alongside Masa’s curated sake flights and highballs, designed to showcase both tradition and innovation.
They’re joined by award-winning whisky expert Kelvin Low (The Elysian Whisky Bar), creative director and music programs Michael Tan, and hospitality veteran Adam Ong, who bring depth and polish to the experience. Together, the team has crafted a menu of rare whiskies, elegant sakes, and cocktails that pair seamlessly with the bar’s true centrepiece, its music.
Open Wednesday to Sunday every night, selectors spin vinyl across genres – jazz, funk, disco, Japanese city pop – on a vintage audiophile-grade system. With just 10 seats, Bar Selecta offers an intimate, distinctly Melbourne experience: where world-class drinks meet sound, culture, and community.
