Chance Bay, located on the southeast side of the renowned Whitsunday Island, is a secluded camping paradise. You can hike along the 3.5km Chance Bay track, part of the enchanting Whitsunday Ngaro Sea Trail, which connects to the Solway Circuit track, leading you to the stunning and iconic Whitehaven Beach. The sand at Chance Bay is the same beautiful white silica sand for which Whitehaven Beach is famous. While Chance Bay is more exposed to the prevailing south-easterly winds, it remains ruggedly beautiful.

Nestled within a quiet bay, the Chance Bay camping area offers spectacular views across the sandy beach to the nearby islands. You can snorkel in the gentle waters of Chance Bay and explore its rich marine life. Keep an eye out for sea turtles—green, flatback, and hawksbill turtles often surface here for a rest.

To camp at Chance Bay, a camping permit is required. The campground can accommodate up to 12 people, and open fires are not permitted in the Whitsunday Islands National Park.
Chance Bay is accessible only by boat during mid to high tide. While there is a good anchorage at Chance Bay during northerly winds, it can be challenging to access with south-easterly winds. Facilities include a composting toilet and picnic tables. Make sure to bring your own drinking water, rubbish bags, a fuel stove, and insect repellent.
