Fern Glade Reserve is just under 4 km from the city centre. It offers long walks along the banks of the Emu River and the chance to see a range of animals in their natural environment including platypus surfacing.

The Reserve which is part of the 60 Great Short Walks for Tasmania, also offers barbecue and picnic facilities and toilets, which can be accessed by vehicles at the main entrance or from a second entrance 0.5km further up the river (Closed dusk to dawn).
