A two-and-a half-hour Guided Walk through the heart and soul of Adelaide’s eastern Park Lands.

Skirting the Adelaide Zoo, the Walk will take in a sculpture park and lush native re-vegetation alongside the River Torrens, a stroll through Adelaide’s rich social history in Botanic Park, some little-known highlights within the Botanic Garden, recent controversial Park losses, and opportunities to glimpse Adelaide’s unique flying fox colony.

River Torrens Sculpture Park

Five public art works installed in 1994 on the banks of the River To

Doug Nicholls bridge

Erected in 2010, this pedestrian and cycling bridge over the River Torrens won an award soon afterwards as “an object of art as much as an element of public infrastructure”.

Botanic Park arboretum

Stretching across the full width of Park 11, this Park once hosted a Speakers Corner but these days is best known as Adelaide’s ideal picnic location, as well as an outdoor event space for concerts and festivals.

Grey-headed flying fox colony

Tens of thousands of these flying mammals roost in the tall trees, after foraging far and wide for fruit

Murdoch Avenue – Moreton Bay fig trees

One of the most iconic parts of the Adelaide Botanic Garden, the 155-year-old Moreton Bay fig trees provide year-round shade along Murdoch Avenue leading into the Garden.

Palm House

Imported from Germany and erected in 1877, this Palm House is thought to be the only one of it type remaining in the world. It features plants from Madagascar.

The Garden of Health demonstrates the use of plants to heal and promote health and wellbeing

Frome Park

This small section of greenery, connecting the Botanic Garden to Frome Road, is a rare example of former Park losses being returned to Open, Green, Public space

Adelaide Park Lands Walking Tours

Guided Walks to explore little-known nooks and crannies of Adelaide’s greatest treasure: the unique open spaces of its Park Lands.

Adelaide is the only city in the world garlanded by Park Lands. In effect the city is built inside a park, and each part of the Park has its own unique features, heritage, and current usage.

Guided Walks are led by trained Tour leaders and can take between 90 minutes and two hours depending upon the location.
