Murray River Trails
Murray River Trails provides two of Australia’s guided signature experiences – Murray River Walk is a Great Walk of Australia and Murray River Safari is an Australian Wildlife Journey. Both multiday tours cater for small groups of up to 10 people in the most beautiful, remote and highly conserved reaches of Australia’s greatest river.
Accommodation on tour is a purpose-built eco-houseboat with 5 spacious bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom and sweeping river views. Superb regional cuisine is prepared each night and includes locally farmed Murray Cod and award-winning wines. Walking is rated easy covering 40km in four days in the cooler months of the year, and Murray River Safari combines river cruising, easy kayaking, and driving around floodplain lakes to see diverse wildlife.
This is a unique opportunity to experience the rich stories of Australia’s greatest river, enduring Aboriginal culture, paddle steamers and pastoralism, diverse wildlife and wetlands, pioneers and innovators, the challenge of sharing water, inspiring environmental regeneration, and the balance of sustaining nature in Australia’s food bowl.
The Murray River Trails Fund was established as a sub-fund of the Australian Communities Foundation with a mission to protect vulnerable species. It’s first project was launched in May 2025 to restore woody habitats for the now vulnerable and iconic Murray Cod in South Australia.
