Located in Australia’s largest sandstone colonial village, Oatlands, just 50 minutes from Hobart airport, in the heart of country Tasmania. Petit Chateau Oatlands is the perfect high-end getaway for couples, solo travellers, or friends – you’ll love all the special details inside this stylish 1830’s convict-built stone cottage.
Picture hand-carved sandstone walls, Georgian cottage windows, a vaulted ceiling with 200-year-old exposed beams, a luxurious contemporary bathtub, and cosy fireplace. Two bedrooms with King-size beds await you with deliciously cosy linen and French Consul linen cushions crafted from French flax by Irish artisans. You’ll love the quiet simplicity of our antique provincial furniture and decor.
From the bedrooms, walk through the 1830’s original doorway into two beautifully appointed and comfortable lounge settings – sink into our cloud-like lounge in front of the fire or enjoy your morning tea in our linen Chesterfields gazing out to the garden.
The large open plan room also includes a gorgeous country kitchen and island bench for preparing meals or enjoying a wine. To the side is their large French-styled walk in bathroom + powder room, mudroom entrance and full laundry.

Stay in a French-styled cottage in historic Oatlands where a crackling fire warms the convict-built sandstone walls and soft European linens dress the beds. Country Style magazine called it “a slice of Provence”. Your stay includes complimentary French caramels with rich Belgian hot chocolate. Winter means cosy evenings by the fire, quiet village streets for wandering and time to slow down in this historic cottage. Minimum two-night stay.
