Moored on the majestic Renmark Riverfront, the Paddle Steamer Industry provides a reminder of bygone times on the Murray River….
The PS Industry was built at Goolwa by the State Government and commissioned in 1911 as a work boat for the SA Engineering and Water Supply Department (now SA Water). It was designed specifically to remove snags from the river, clearing the passage for other river steamers and to drive piles where needed. The Industry was later used in the construction and maintenance of the locks and weirs.
After being retired in 1969 from active duty, it was a static museum until 1990 when it was carefully restored by the hard work of a group of volunteers.
The Industry steams at regular intervals throughout the year, including: selected long weekends and other special occasions. Bookings essential either online or through the Renmark Visitor Centre.
The vessel is accessible to board and walk around on during the visitor centre’s open hours. It is also available for private charters groups and as a part of visiting group itineraries. Please direct any enquiries to the Renmark Visitor Centre for further information.
