Travel south from Hobart through the Huon Valley to Tahune Adventures, where a range of great short walks showcase the region’s pristine wilderness. Walk high above the forest on the Tahune Airwalk, suspended in the treetops with sweeping views across the canopy. Continue across the Swinging Bridges walk over the Huon River, or enjoy a gentler stroll along the Huon Pine riverbank.

From there, head to Hastings Caves State Reserve for lunch, a relaxing soak in the 28°C thermal pool and a walk along the Hot Springs Nature Trail. Finish the day with a guided underground tour of Newdegate Cave, where towering dolerite formations, stalactites and stalagmites have formed over millions of years.

On the return journey to Hobart, stop at local roadside stalls to sample fresh produce and handcrafted treats. This tour combines adventure, relaxation and natural beauty in one unforgettable Tasmanian experience.

Itinerary highlights

Tahune Airwalk

Walk through the trees suspended 40 metres above ground. Explore the Tahune Airwalk and to walk along the Cantilever, stretching for 597 metres through the treetops. Enjoy the sensation of being suspended above the Huon River with breathtaking views across the treetops and surrounding mountains. Time to explore and enjoy more walking is available. Take a 45-minute walk to the Swinging Bridges with a 50 metre span across the river, or a shorter 20 minute Huon Pine walk.

Hastings Caves

Further south we drive to delve 40 metres underground into the vast chambers of a cave tour. The Hastings Cave Reserve is another spectacular place to enjoy a variety of activities. Bring your swimming gear and jump into the thermal springs with 28-degree water. Relax in the beautiful forest surrounds or wander the Hot Springs Nature Trail where the warm water meets cool. The cave tour is conducted by the National Parks expert guides. Cave temperature is always 9 degrees so bring your jumper along. We head underground to explore this spectacular cave which is Australia’s largest tourist Dolomite Cave.
