he Tarkine Wilderness Region encompasses 447,000 hectares of wilderness including the Southern Hemispheres largest single tract of temperate rainforest.
It is a wild coastline with an extraordinary wealth of Aboriginal cultural heritage sites and habitat for over 50 threatened species.
Join Women’s Fitness Adventures on this 7 day, 6 nights, fully accommodated, day pack, hiking adventure exploring one of the most remote and beautiful parts of the world – the Tarkine Wilderness in the north-west of Tasmania.
Our adventure is mainly hiking, covering approximately 50km over 6 days. We explore the spectacular highlights and trails of the Tarkine region with stays in lodge style accommodation.
This adventure is graded as Introductory Plus. Please refer to the section below on Adventure Grading and Fitness Level for more information.
Itinerary highlights
Day 1: Arrive into Launceston
Our adventure begins in Launceston where we meet in the late afternoon where we meet for team introductions and a team briefing.
Then it’s time for our Welcome Dinner where we share our expectations for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Penguin – Rocky Cape National Park – Stanley
Launceston – Stanley
It’s an early start this morning by Private Transfer as we make our way to the North West Coast.
Our first stop is at the seaside town of Penguin where we stop for a hot drink and a briefing with our Guides of the week’s adventure.
From here we drive to Rocky Cape National Park for a walk to explore some of the oldest rocks in Tasmania. We then make our way to Stanley where we visit the famous ‘Nut’ and book into our accommodation for the night.

Meals: Breakfast | Lunch | Dinner & snacks for the trail
Hiking distance: 7 – 8km approx.
Hiking time: Approx. 3 – 4 hours
Day 3: Stanley – Sundown Point – Edge of the World – Arthur River
t’s another early start today as we complete the drive to the West Coast with our goal to squeeze out every moment.
We will arrive at Sundown Point where we hike to Sundown Creek and explore this rugged coastline. We make our way up the beach towards the Edge of the World before walking into our accommodation for the night at Arthur River.
After settling into our accommodation we take another short walk up the coast to make the most of the long summer days.

Hiking Distance: 7 – 8 km approx.
Hiking Time: Approx. 4 hours
Day 4: Mt Donaldson – Savage River Walk
It’s another early start today with coffee to go and breakfast on the bus!
Today we experience two great hikes; one hike up Mt Donaldson and the other hike alongside the Savage River.
Our hike up Mt Donaldson has us traversing rainforests leading to the button grass plain with great views over the Pieman River and surrounding forests. (this was also one of the last known homes of the Tasmanian Tiger)
After lunch back at our bus, we continue through the rainforest in the opposite direction – following the Savage River to our home for the next 2 nights

Hiking Distance: 13km approx.
Hiking Time: 6 hours
Day 5: Pieman River Cruise – Rupert Point Hike – Corrina
It’s an early start with a sunrise boat ride down the Pieman River. Enjoy the mirror like reflections of the surrounding rainforest in the dark waters. Relish in the sounds of this Ancient area waking up.
It’s time to disembark and take a coastal hike to Point Rupert. This area is rich in Aboriginal middens, artefacts and rock engravings. After lunch, we board an historic vessel and journey back along the river to Corinna.

Hiking distance: 12km approx.
Hiking time: 5 hours
Cruise time: 2.5 hours
Day 6: Corinna – Western Road – Montezuma Falls – Lake Roseberry, Tullah
Today we board our private transfer and travel on the remote Western Road passing through historic towns where we will stop to wander. Our hike for the day is to Montezuma Falls – Tasmania’s tallest waterfall at 104m.
Then it’s time to travel to our next location – Tullah where we have beautiful views over Lake Roseberry and the opportunity to walk around the lake’s edge.
Tonight we have our Traditional Awards & Celebration Dinner – a reflection of our wonderful achievements in the Tarkine.

Hiking distance: 8km approx.
Hiking time: 4 hours
Day 7: Tullah – Mt Farrell – Launceston
There is one more early morning as we make our way to our final hike – Mt Farrell. Our walk through rainforest and buttongrass towards the saddle which rewards us with 360 degree views of the Tarkine. It is a fitting end to our adventure in the Tasmanian Wilderness.
The drive back toward Launceston provides us with beautiful scenery and some last reflections of our Tarkine Adventure.
It’s an afternoon drop off to the airport for our flights home.
