All aboard the unforgettable 2000 class rail motors. Fall in love and feel the rhythm on the rails. Take a different perspective of the country as you encounter wildlife and bring alive the numerous waterholes, passing scrub and grasslands with it’s incredible natural and cultural heritage. Step off the rail motors for a guided Mulga walk, learn of bush medicines and Leander sand ridge secrets.

On arrival at Darr River, soak up the atmosphere of one of the major tributaries of the Thomson River and Cooper Creek Catchment as you savour the experience and they boil the billy for Smoko. After an incredible Outback Rail Adventure on the Great Darr River Rail Run, re-board the train for the journey back to Longreach Railway Station.

The Outback Rail Adventure is Outback Aussie Tours’ newest tourism experience reconnecting visitors with the romance of rail.

Outback Aussie Tours is a family-owned local operator with over 35 years of experience and unrivalled local Outback Queensland knowledge, passion and connections.

The Outback Rail Adventure has four experiences to offer:

Historic Ilfracombe Excursion – This 4.5hr journey takes you to the historic town of Ilfracombe, where you will explore the town and have lunch at the famous Wellshot Hotel before returning home.

Great Darr River Rail Run – A 3hr experience travelling west to the Darr River, where you will enjoy a homemade smoko and billy tea before heading home.

Silver-Tails Rail Sunset – This 4.5hr experience is a unique way to enjoy the sun setting while indulging in signature canapes.

Silver-Tails Rail Sunset with Smithy’s Dinner and Show – Enjoy the Silver-Tails Rail Sunset experience before disembarking from the train to enjoy Smithy’s Outback Dinner an Show under the stars by the Thomson River.
